Contemplation

If there is light in the heart
Then go after it bravely
If there is a path under your feet
Then step it boldly
Push away the layers of fog
Climb over the mountain inside you
Only then is there silence
Only then is there joy


The opening section is a quiet melody that slowly tells the story (I wrote this song when imagining myself deep in the desert, which is why the piece has some exotic feelings, it also reflected in the scales). The middle section has strong emotional stuff, using challenging Guzheng techniques such as “dian zhi” and “sao yao” and rhythmic changes as well, when everything reached to a climax, suddenly I’m using another technique called “lun zhi” to dim the volume and then slowly ends this section. After this the two simple but deep bends are especially important here, I left some blanks here(in Chinese it’s called “留白”, it’s a very important technique used in Chinese Arts), which is the tranquility after the storms in the brain, the lightness after experiencing the great ups and downs of life. It’s where I stopped to think, to experience, to feel. The closing paragraph is an echo of the first section, bringing the music back to the theme again, distant and silent. The music ends here, but the thoughts do not end.
